Dr. John Benton has lived and practiced orthodontics in Calhoun Country since 1985. He received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Louisiana State University. He continued his education to earn his doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree and Certificate in Orthodontics at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. Dr. Benton is board-certified and was the first orthodontist in Calhoun County to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He was also the first to bring the innovative Damon Braces System to Calhoun County.
Dr. Barry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Furman University. He then went on to receive his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Barry continued his education at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry and received his Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry. Dr. Barry joined his father, Dr. Benton, at Designer Smiles by Benton. Dr. Barry is board-certified and one of the youngest practicing orthodontists in the nation to be a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Stephanie McElroy attended the University of Louisville, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree before continuing at her alma mater to complete her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry. For her orthodontic training, Dr. McElroy ventured west to the University of Oklahoma, where she received her Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry.
Having grown up in Benton, Kentucky, Dr. Stephanie McElroy is especially delighted to be a part of Braces by Benton, a coincidence that makes her new professional home feel even more personal.
Moody Braces
Traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we offer. These braces, made of metal or ceramic brackets connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics, are attached to your teeth. Regular adjustments with our doctors ensure these components work together to gently apply pressure to your teeth, gradually moving them into the desired position.
Braces in Moody are a great choice for both simple and complex teeth issues. They are also a cost-effective option for patients on a budget. Braces can sometimes work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other options, potentially reducing overall treatment time.
Moody Clear Aligners
The Spark system in Moody uses clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into alignment instead of brackets and bands. Spark aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and designed to fit snugly over your teeth. The trays are virtually invisible and are usually switched out every 1-2 weeks.
For optimal results, Spark aligners must be worn 20-22 hours per day. Spark is most effective when used to correct many of the most common orthodontic issues, and may not be the best option for patients with especially complex cases.
